Post-surgical recovery may be different for patients
that have received the classic forehead lift as
opposed to the use of endoscopy. Generally, use
of the endoscope means smaller incisions and less
numbness. In either approach, discomfort can be
controlled by medication. The head should be elevated
for two to three days to control swelling which
may affect the cheeks and eyes. This should disappear
in a week or two and when permitted, makeup can
be used to camouflage any discoloration. By the
second day, most patients are up and about but
should take it easy for the first week. Bandages
will be removed a day or two after surgery and
most stitches or clips will be removed within
two weeks. The initial numbness may be replaced
with an itching sensation that may persist for
several months. And some patients lose hair around
the incision. This is temporary, and normal hair
growth usually resumes within a few weeks or months.
Most patients are back in their normal routine
within a week or ten days. However, a less strenuous
activity level should be observed for several
weeks and prolonged exposure to the sun avoided
for months.
