Complementing the facelift
and eyelid procedures is the forehead or browlift using the conventional method of coronal
incision just above the hairline or with an endoscope, a viewing
instrument that permits viewing tissue sublayers with smaller
incisions. Either approach will smooth the forehead and lift
the eyebrows to give the face a more youthful, refreshed appearance.
Gone is that tired, worried look that gradually shows in our
face as we age. Normally, men and women in the forty to sixty
year age range seek this procedure. However, younger people
may be candidates to correct an inherited feature or frown
lines due to excessive muscle activity in that area of the
face. Whatever the age, a smoother forehead does wonders for
the face and one's self-confidence.

Before operating,
the surgeon will get a medical history and examine the patient.
An evaluation of the patient's face will be completed, and
the surgeon will discuss the goals of surgery. It is important
that the patient tell the surgeon about any medication he
or she is taking and whether or not they smoke. These factors,
as in other procedures, can have an effect on post-surgical
recovery. Pre-op instructions should be followed to the letter
to help speed up recovery and reduce risk. The patient with
short hair may want to let his or her hair grow out some so
that it's long enough to hide the incisions while they heal.
A forehead lift is usually performed on an outpatient basis
and under local anesthesia combined with a heavy sedative.
The patient will be awake, but very relaxed. He or she may
feel some tugging and tightness, but the forehead area will
not be painful.
