Immediate surgical complications are
rare, but can be potentially significant. Bleeding or infection
of the orbit (bony case protecting the eyeball) can lead
to disturbances or even visual loss. Most common and certainly
less serious are lid swelling and weakness at lid closure
leading to irritation and tearing which may take up to six
weeks to resolve. Occasionally, ectropion (sagging of the
lower lid) can lead to a disappointment in results and additional
surgery may be required, this is rare though. Most problems
are cosmetic such as incomplete correction of the primary
problem or subtle asymmetrics which can be corrected.
