The surgeon will require that a compression garment be worn twenty-four hours a day under the clothing over the affected area(s) for about six weeks to minimize discoloration and swelling. Oral medication will control discomfort and the patient will be advised to drink extra fluids postoperatively. Antibiotics may be prescribed to reduce the risk of postsurgical infection. Strenuous activity should be restricted for a couple of weeks and near normal activity can be resumed in about a week. Patients will notice initial improvement in the contour of the targeted area or areas, and a very pleasing result after the gradual diminishing of swelling and bruising over the next several weeks. After stitches are removed, soaking in a warm tub helps to speed the recovery along.
